HALLE (SAALE) - ART, ARCHITECTURE AND LIFESTYLE
The examples of modern architecture in Halle (Saale) are various and unique. In the 1920s, the city advanced to become an emerging modern industrial metropolis in central Germany: mining regions in the surrounding area, the chemical industry, aircraft construction, the industrialization of agriculture, and salt mining were all important catalysts. Today there are many entry points for the topic of modernism in Halle (Saale), such as estate architecture, buildings for administration and transportation, commercial buildings and social buildings, schools and churches as well as private and public buildings. The various forms of modernism which flourished in this city can be seen at the art school at Burg Giebichenstein, which was established in 1915 under the direction of Paul Thiersch and attracted renowned Bauhaus members from Weimar to Halle (Saale) in 1925, including Gerhard Marcks.
BURG GIEBICHENSTEIN ART COLLEGE HALLE
In 1915, the architect Paul Thiersch took over the then artisan school and reformed it according to the principles of the German Werkbund. Under his leadership, the castle developed into the most important artistic training center next to the Bauhaus. The castle is today a renowned design and art college.
ART MUSEUM MORITZBURG HALLE (SAALE)
The Moritzburg, whose foundation stone was laid at the end of the 15th century, is a museum with a more than 100-year-old, mature structure. The emphasis of the collection is on the art of the 20th and 21st century. The main topic in the current permanent exhibition is u. a. also the classical modern age.
BIG GARAGE SOUTH
The architect and contractor Walter Tutenberg built with the Großgarage South, on the edge of the Lutheran settlement in the south of the city of Halle (Saale), a roadmarked parking garage based on the American model with 150 possible parking spaces. The building, built in style and function of the New Building, was far ahead of architecture in its time and is one of the oldest parking garages in Germany.
PARISH CHURCH "FOR SACRED TRINITY"
